International Women’s Day
Today is a powerful day for myself because I am in the aspiring blogging and influencer industry, which is RUN by women. I realized this after starting my blog and my Instagram account, when I received so much support from all these women I met for the first time through blogging.
I would get invited to brunch with complete strangers and even if I didn’t really know what to expect, I would go. And woMAN (see what I did there) did I meet some INCREDIBLE women. These ladies have become true friends who reach out to make sure I feel inspired and accomplished every day. Blogging is hard; you are constantly comparing yourself to everyone else who is doing the same thing as you. As a woman, it is so natural to play the comparison game and put yourself down for “not doing enough”. But today I want to focus on the women who take the time out of their days to make sure other women don’t feel like less than they are. They share each other’s strengths with the world and they build each other up. I want to say thank you to any woman who has sent kind, supportive words to me, because you are the reason I keep going every day.
Being a woman is a complicated but powerful gift from God. We are literally the makers of human beings, the glue to families, the warmth in a home, and the lifeline of our children. The women in my family are by far the strongest women I have ever met in my life, and that’s not biased. It’s true. I was raised to be independent no matter what, to be kind and to be gracious. I am who I am solely because I was blessed with my mother, my aunt, and my sister.
Because of them, I made a life altering decision to blog. I didn’t realize it would be life altering, but it rocked my entire world. I don’t even know what I was doing with my day to day life before this. I am influenced daily by some of the hardest working bloggers through Instagram and their blog pages. I am literally witnessing society as we knew it spin on its axis because I have joined this other virtual world, where women are able to absolutely crush their career goals while being a full time mom. I am peering into the intimate details of motherhood and all the emotions and hardships of it through Instagram stories and blog posts, when I haven’t even had my own child yet. I see husbands who work alongside their wives as a business partner to support her dreams. I see dads coming home from their office work early when the kids are sick so the mom can get back to work. I am part of a movement standing up for myself and for every other woman out there daily when it comes to internet bullying and body positivity.
And my goodness, I could not be prouder to be a part of Womankind.
So here’s to the women I was raised by, and the women I look up to on social media who are changing the norms. I love that we are so good at changing the world.
