Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
Rated 4/5 stars- A mother of 3 daughters in their 20s recounts her dating years of a famous actress and how she met and fell in love with their father, the director of the play she and her then boyfriend acted in. The book is set in the pandemic on a cherry farm in Michigan. I loved this story so much and found myself thinking of the characters during my day, which is when I know I am interested in a book!
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
Rated 5/5 stars- Jennette McCurdy’s story of her abusive mom and her life- how her mom pushed her into acting when she didn’t want it, how she grew up, and her experiences as a young actor, then her years recovering from anorexia and bulimia. I read this book in 2 days because I was so interested in it. It has a good sense of humor and it tells a heartbreaking childhood story in an important, digestible way.
The Woman In Me by Britney Spears
Rated 3/5 stars- While the book is great to read, and I loved learning more from Britney’s point of view, I will say the writing was like reading a teen’s diary. I did enjoy that aspect of it because it is like reading the diary of Britney Spears, but it was not as good, in my small opinion, as Jennette’s book because hers was written so well.
