None of This is True by Lisa Jewell
Rated 5/5 stars- Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summers crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life. Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can’t quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix’s life—and into her home. But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her own true crime podcast, with her life and her family’s lives under mortal threat.Who is Josie Fair? And what has she done? LOVED this book so much- read it in just a few days and my mom loved it just as much!
Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan
Rated 4/5 stars- This book is a perfect summer beach read- it takes place at Sam’s vacation home where she visits her family every summer with her new fiancé. Next door, her teenage love, Wyatt, returns and of course they fall back in love. I love books like this one, which switch back and forth between narratives and time because they keep my interest. I finished the entire book in 3 days while traveling and really enjoyed getting to pick it back up again.
A Perfect Vintage by Chelsea Fagan
Rated 3/5 stars- Lea Mortimer is a single woman in her 30s who owns an interior design business she runs in France every summer. She is type-a and doesn’t believe in marriage or love that will last a lifetime. Her best friend and cousin is going through a divorce and wants to come with Lea on her latest project in France for the summer with her daughter, Lea’s “neice” Maya. Maya falls for the french son of Lea’s boss- but so does Lea. In this summer french affair, Lea learns that falling in love doesn’t have to be terrifying if she gives into it. I enjoyed reading this one but it didn’t hold my attention until about halfway through. Great writing style and I love the drama in it.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
Rated 5/5 stars- A three day read, 5 star rating for me! I LOVED this book from the very beginning. After Tova Sullivan's husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she's been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago.Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn't dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors--until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova's son disappeared. And now Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it's too late.
